Steroetypes of Embracing Religion instead Sincere Relationship with Christ ( Religious vs. Christ-like)

God Wants to Give You Life, Not Legalism
These are stereotypes, but they represent people who have abandoned their relationship with Jesus to instead embrace a religion. But Jesus says, “I have come that you might have life [not religion] and have it to the fullest!”

Some people wrongly think following Jesus means they have to become judgmental and legalistic. Nothing could be further from the truth. Jesus came to give us a rich and satisfying life: “A thief is only there to steal and kill and destroy. I came so they can have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of” (John 10:10 MSG)

It is Satan who wants to “steal and kill and destroy” your freedom and your joy.
Often well-meaning and misguided people can cause us to avoid God because of their fanaticism. Here are the types of religious fanatics I’ve observed over the years:

Freddy the Pharisee: Rigid, narrow-minded, and legalistic, he has a rule for everything. His favorite word is “don’t.” And it’s only natural for some people to fear they may become just like that if they become a Christian. But Jesus called people like Freddy the Pharisee “blind guides,” saying, “You strain your water so you won’t accidentally swallow a gnat, but you swallow a camel!” (Matthew 23:24 NLT, second edition)

Susie Self-righteous: With a holier-than-thou attitude and judgmental of others, her favorite phrase is, “Thank God I’m not like you!” Jesus told the story of two men praying, one self-righteous and one humbled by his failures: “I tell you, this sinner, not the Pharisee, returned home justified before God. For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted” (Luke 18:14).

Billy Bible-thumper:He’s an obnoxious and overzealous crusader. His favorite phrase is “Turn or burn!” Yet God’s plan for bringing us home to him is full of love, grace, and sacrifice: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Pauline Praise-eluia: She can’t speak without religious clichés. Everything is a miracle or the Devil did it. She’s put her brain on the shelf. But God doesn’t want you to stop thinking when you become a Christian; in fact, he wants to give you the mind of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:16).

2 Thessalonians 3:11 New International Version (NIV)

11 We hear that some among you are idle and disruptive. They are not busy; they are busybodies

  • while mothers-in-law have reputation for being prime meddlers, they have not cornered the market on this vice.
  • Men, relatives, co-workers and well meaning friends are also prone to prying from time to time.
  • Unlike gossips, meddlers usually seek personal information directly from their subjects.
  • In all fairness, not everyone who makes inquiries is meddling. Many are sincerely interested in helping others.
  • Whether you are genuinely concerned or just plain curious, be especially careful to avoid probing.
  • It is best to wait for someone to volunteer detailed information about his personal health.
  • if you are prone to natural curiosity, you must make a special effort to keep you inquisitiveness. within the bound of what is socially and spiritually appropriate.
  • In some situation you may have no intentions of prying, however you may still run the risk of your inquisitiveness offending others.
  • He/she was not a child and could manage her affair just fine.
  • Even if you feel you have earned the right to stick your nose into the situation , walk softly. You might want to pray about it first and leave the matter to God. He is always better at influencing circumstances than we are.
  •  Do I have a sincere, unselfish motive for prying into this matter, or am I attempting to control thing for my desired objectives?

Proverbs 26:17New King James Version (NKJV)

17 He who passes by and meddles in a quarrel not his own
Is like one who takes a dog by the ears.

1 Peter 4:15-16New Living Translation (NLT)

15 If you suffer, however, it must not be for murder, stealing, making trouble, or prying into other people’s affairs. 16 But it is no shame to suffer for being a Christian. Praise God for the privilege of being called by his name!

Someone once said that one reason why people who mind their won business are succsessful is that they have so little competition.

P.S.. unfinished

BIG & small

Matthew 20:16New International Version (NIV)

16 “So the last will be first, and the first will be last.”

  • We may need to grow more in generosity and freedom from our need for money, in which case financial doors may close.
  • We may need to grow in humility, in which case grandiose wish. Fulfillment doors will be closed.
  • We may need to grow in our ability to delay gratification, in which case the ” Right now” door may be closed.
  • We may need to grow in  our ability to love our enemies or even our more prickly friends, in which case the “Lord change him” door may be closed.
  • Many doors that look large to us are small to God and many doors that look small to us are very large to him.
  • In God’s Kingdom , small is the new big. In God’s Kingdom , the way up is down and the way to living is dying.
  • So we are called to never despair, no matter how small our lives look or how many doors that we desperately wanted to go through appear to have closed.

Learning Jonah’s Way

Jonah 4:2-3New International Version (NIV)

He prayed to the Lord, “Isn’t this what I said, Lord, when I was still at home? That is what I tried to forestall by fleeing to Tarshish. I knew that you are a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger and abounding in love, a God who relents from sending calamity. Now, Lord, take away my life, for it is better for me to die than to live.”

Jonah knew God is gracious and compassionate. God wants to bring salvation of the Great City of Nineveh! Nineveh was the Capital City of Assyria; the city full of wickedness. Though Jonah was running away, his thoughts are little far more than the thoughts and ways of God. He was afraid that the Land might destroy him and our God. He considered Nineveh as the enemy not worthy to be saved or impossible to change. However God has a great heart because it turns out God has a great heart for the Great City. Jonah is quoting here the famous confession of God’s identity in the history of Israel, when God revealed himself to Moses on Mount Sinai. God’s love manifests itself in his accessibility to all, regardless of our reputation, nationality and race. His Grace doesn’t reach only to Israelites but to everyone.

Additional Facts:

  • Jonah is really ” the patron saint of refused calling”
  • He calls, then one called resist for one reason or another and then there is a decision.
  • Bible is God’s Story.
  • Nineveh was the capital of Assyria. Assyria was the great world power. ” The City of Blood” as per Nahum.
  • Tarshish had a great wealth. It was pioneer in trade commerce over the sea was kind of like new technology and making some people rich.
  • He converted the sailors ” Mass Gentile conversion” Pagan boat becomes a place of worship.
  • Jonah was inside the fist for 3 days and 3 nights.
  • Priest- served in the temple , offered sacrifices , they led worship
  • Prophet- A reformer, activist- kind of trouble maker pricking people’s conscience.

Jonah 4:10-11(NIV)

10 But the Lord said, “You have been concerned about this plant, though you did not tend it or make it grow. It sprang up overnight and died overnight. 11 And should I not have concern for the great city of Nineveh, in which there are more than a hundred and twenty thousand people who cannot tell their right hand from their left—and also many animals?”

“He opens doors all around, boundless opportunities to contribute to humanity in ways large and small, to make our lives count for eternity….”

Being Broke Is A blessing

Here you are being so envious of people going to coffee shop, pampering themselves to luxurious spa, shopping endlessly, updated their gadgets, hopping to the next destination of adventure and here you are stuck in your house and telling God “ Oh God Why Am I always Broke? “

You work so hard and when you have the cash it blew away so quickly. You feel life is so hard to enjoy. You work for it but you can’t feel the comfort of your hard work. You envy people because they have the world. You look at yourself pitifully and said” I am just ordinary”. After you got the cash you open your notebook budget and jot down all the expense and bills. Oh! Here you are after you got your cash you’re stuck at your house and feeling down doing nothing because you spent your money already. You are tired of that cliche, in your heart you want to indulge yourself to luxury.

Matthew 6:21New International Version (NIV)

21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Ecclesiastes 5:10New International Version (NIV)

10 Whoever loves money never has enough;
whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with their income.
    This too is meaningless.

But haven’t you realized that being broke is a blessing? You have nowhere to go. You can’t go out because you recently paid the bills and groceries. You budget your money until the next pay day. You grumble to yourself that life is so difficult because you feel financially inadequate.

Are you really financially inadequate? Ask yourself three times. Sometimes this word is misused especially when they feel completely running out of money.

So let analyze…

  • You paid your bills and nothing left but allowance for the next pay day. You are not broke because you prioritize your financial responsibilities over luxury.
  • You gave money to people who need it most and you share tithes and you realized there is nothing left in you. You are not broke because your money has purpose. You are generous at heart. When you give do not grieve.

Exodus 22:25New International Version (NIV)

25 “If you lend money to one of my people among you who is needy, do not treat it like a business deal; charge no interest.

Matthew 19:21New International Version (NIV)

21 Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”

You are not broke, you are frugal but you aspire to do beyond you financial capacity. That makes you feel broke.

1 Timothy 6:10New International Version (NIV)

10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

Okay! If you claim yourself to be broke because that’s what you feel right now then let it be. You can say you are broke when you are really financially bankrupt. You spent your money to unnecessary things. You have not paid your bills and debts after you gone wasted.  You have not settled your credit card. You don’t have savings. In that way, you are absolutely true.

But don’t feel bad about yourself for too long. And don’t grumble your life because you are grumbling to God too when in fact it is your own doing why it runs out that fast. God is watching you while you are doing your thing.

I just realized when you are doing something on your own regardless if it is good or bad, still God allows it. Because his sovereignty will always reign. You are predestined, you have nowhere to run. You can’t escape your destiny. At the end of the day when life hits you ten times you run back to him asking for help. You turn 360 degrees and come back to him weeping, asking for forgiveness and guidance. Oh here he is with outstretched arms, preparing of your coming. Oh that’s humanity being arrogant and sinful and that’s God being merciful and loving. He made you, you belong to him. You are not master of yourself. You are his sheep, and he will always watch you wander.

The sad truth is that sometimes we claim we are broke because we want something more than ordinary. Even if we shop all day, gone out to a place, eat to luxury restaurants, got you to a movie treat, pamper ourselves, we will never be satisfied. Still we will feel inadequate. We want more! We want to live a life of luxury all the time. We want it every day.

Matthew 6:24New International Version (NIV)

24 “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.

But if we change our view and look unto the brighter side, we will be contented. While you are celebrating life have you think of God? While enjoying the luxurious moments have you given your full time to him as you always promised? Can you meditate? Can you focus? I don’t think so. Your time and focus will be divided. You may appreciate, thank him day and night but have you thank him for what really matters? Have you aligned your thoughts and feelings? Have you thank him for the real purpose of your existence? If it is his purpose to shop a lot, eat a lot, socialize a lot. This is not God anymore, this is the enemy. You are made into something more, for the great purpose of God. You will be one of his legacies. Yes! You will become one!

1 Timothy 6:17-19New International Version (NIV)

17 Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.18 Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. 19 In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.

Being broke is a way to have an alone time with him. You don’t have money even a fare to visit granny or your best friend. It is God you need. You open your bible and pray to God. You worship him and realized “Oh this is the true abundance!”

1 Samuel 2:7New International Version (NIV)

The Lord sends poverty and wealth;
    he humbles and he exalts.

Hebrews 13:5New International Version (NIV)

Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said,

“Never will I leave you;
    never will I forsake you.”[a]

It is time to be with him. To convers and praise him. He wants you to stop running with the world because the world is very competitive. Never content. He wants you to realize that every day is a blessing. You need to be contented because he gave you more such as Grace. He wants you to be protected. He wants you to realize that all you need is here, him. It is so amazing to have a God you can count all the time. He is a God higher than anything however you can call him anytime. He is always there.

In this world high hierarchy people is hard to be with.  Try to have an appointment with the President. You need permit and reasonable reason to offer. If you say “I want to know him more personally”. Forget about it, it will never happen. You are wasting his time. Or try to converse with your father busy with business or work and will say “I have no time kid, I’ll make it up to you soon”. Or to a friend to vent out but they are busy with life. To think they are all human same as you. Why can’t they be reachable? Unlike the maker of the world, just say the word “God please listen, help me” before you can say it he was there all the time. He cares beyond what you can see and measure. He is clingy and jealous God. That’s the word.

Romans 8:28-30New International Version (NIV)

28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who[a] have been called according to his purpose. 29 For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.30 And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.

For those people who said” you are broke” or “I am broke”. Have you noticed that God is implying something. He wants you to look around inside your house. He wants you to grab your pen and bible and said” make time for me , you have gone lately. I am waiting for you”. If he is here he might say “You told me that you will give me your time. That we will meditate together, sing together and laugh. You told me that you want me to be in charge and help you in your life”

He wants you to look around and evaluate yourself. You utter words “I love you Lord, you know that. I trust you” Do you still feel that ways? Read Luke 22:54-62 when Peter denied him after claiming he love the Lord. Peter denied him 3 times before the rooster crow. We have the capacity of human frailty just like Peter. Humans as we are, our weakness can yield to temptations. He foresee it, he want us to be like Peter all the time. Don’t be caught up by your own words and trapped by your own promise. He wants you to be snatched from the world because you are his custody. You belong to him.

Revelation 3:17New International Version (NIV)

17 You say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.’ But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked.

He wants you to look around and appreciate little things and focus to what is important.

Lately you’ve been busy shopping! But you realized you need to pay bills and groceries. You went out with a friend and talk nonsense instead of talking to God. It is normal to be sociable and be a friend. But too much of it puts you to harm.

Proverbs 10:11New International Version (NIV)

11 The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life,
but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence.

Proverbs 25:7New International Version (NIV)

it is better for him to say to you, “Come up here,”
than for him to humiliate you before his nobles.

What you have seen with your eyes

This is true! First you have a sensible topic then you will feel comfortable so you share opinions then everything. The next day you caught each other slandering and gossiping. And it is contagious!

You feel so stress and envious so you gave yourself a break and become contagious. You go to coffee shop to hang out and it cost you a lot, you went shopping and tempted to buy more. You went for a night out then went home tired. You see pile of clothes, messy closet, dusty floor, and too tired to tidy up. You woke up broke and your breakfast was mom’s nagging telling you are irresponsible. You get emotional and said “why I am always broke? “

large (2).jpg

Enjoy this day being broke. Wake up and prepare breakfast. Sip that sweet coffee you made and say  “ it is another day” Grab your bible sing with him and have a heart to heart talk with God. You will never go wrong talking to him. Do laundry and household chores. He wants you to be simple and enjoy little things. If you are much of a talker, talk to him. He won’t judge you and won’t get tired of listening. If you will feel broke again. Contemplate on it then have a long breath in and out and say to yourself “ I can reverse this. This shall pass! It’s a new day to start, I will cling to God until this will be my routine” do this every day and your awareness of things will change.

You will save a lot of money than before. You will spend more of important things. You will never mind buying new shoes, bags, make up, jewelry, jackets and clothes. You are busy with what really matters. He wants you to erase the word broke in your vocabulary and change it to “I am living a low key and frugal life”

Proverbs 13:7New International Version (NIV)

One person pretends to be rich, yet has nothing;
another pretends to be poor, yet has great wealth.

Some people only feel good about themselves when they are cutting others down. Maybe they don’t know how much their words hurt other people. Maybe they even think they are being funny 😂. It’s no fun to be on the receiving end of sarcastic comments. The negative 👎🏻 things settle into your heart ❤️ and make difficult to feel good 😊 about yourself. Most people don’t realize how much words affect others. But God knows that the things we say have the power to help or hurt 😭 people. We are encouraged in the Bible 📖 to speak kindly to each other. We are told to be careful how we speak to each other- to guard our tongues. Jesus taught that we should show love ❤️ to others. A big part of showing love means being careful about what we say and thinking 💭 about how or words will make the other person feel.

Someone told me that he will pray for my “idle character” and I smirked back! How dare he told me that when in fact even in my day offs I’m finding ways to be productive? He knew how serious I am at work.  How hard working I am in life, striving to be the best version of me.  It alarmed me really. I laughed at him and asked him “seriously?”  . I tried to defend myself  “ Oh C’mon ! I used to have my daily “ to do list,  recently I have my morning and evening routine. You know how I hate to do nothing. I was inspired by my new discovered bloggers and fond with these cool youtubers” And yes! He is serious! He stood for it and said “ You think a lot” and I was silent. I tried to listen while he was sharing his meditation. However I didn’t get over of what he told me and there I knew his point. In that moment I was able to contemplate, meditate and pray. His point is not being lazy physically but my spiritual realm is affected because of my idle mode.

When I heard the word idle, it reminds me of being lazy. Idle means simply doing nothing. But the real essence of the word is procrastinating physically, mentally and especially spiritually. It is not just being lazy and doing nothing in particular. We can identify idleness in physical realm. It is really known in physical and psychoenergetic realm. But we can’t recognize idle in our transcendental or spiritual realm. In fact once your transcendental realm is in idle, it will affect your psychoenergetic (cognitive and emotions) and physical realm subconsciously. Then what’s wrong with it? If spiritual idleness is not being recognized then it will affect your character. Let me site an example:

Once you over think you are in your idle mode. Entertaining fear, distrust, worry, judgment, and grumbling are the sign of idleness. Because when you are productive you will have no time for criticism, small talks, nonsense arguments, fear, distrust, judgment, grumbling and vulnerability.  When you are productive you are making a significant out of that thing. You produce well out of the productivity. You are rising and not falling down. You are mature enough to react and respond to a dilemma.

I realized that I over think a lot! In work, in any aspects of my life actually! And I realized that I cannot skip my spiritual realm because my strength comes from it. How can I be grateful if I don’t read my bible and meditate?  This world is rich in competition, power, treasures and critics. If I trust the lord, focus on my meditation and praise will I over think and be weary? No! I will be grateful and positive with life.
